Mí (from the Chinese, 谜, meaning puzzle) was the first project I completed at my time at the University of Abertay Dundee, and the final one completed without the involvement of an external client - making it the only project completed at my time at the university that did not have outside stakeholders. The project involved an artist, a programmer, two part-time sound engineers, and a part-time producer, with me as designer on the project. During this project I was responsible for designing everything excluding the visual look of the game which was mostly handled by the artist, and focussed on level design which took the form of puzzles. Due to the restricted resources of the producer, I was also primarily responsible for inter-communication between disciplines bringing toghether a very technically-minded programmer and a non-technically-minded artist.
Mí borrows gameplay elements from pipe puzzle games such as Pipe Mania and combines this playstyle with a maze-adventure game. Mí requires the player to complete the pipe puzzles in smaller sections at a time, so that the player character can enter and exit the maze at different points in order to complete the levels. Each level has a 'par', the recommended number of piece rotations needed to complete the level perfectly, which the player is encouraged to strive for while playing through levels.
The project was completed using Marmalade SDK with the final objective being a game that could be ported to the Windows 8 Phone platform.
