Christopher McGerr - Game Designer

Supermarché

Duration: August 2012-October 2012
Role: Game Developer
Team Size: 4 Full-Time

The current financial situation in Tunisia means that money is restricted from leaving the country. As a result of this, online shopping opportunities for Tunisians are rare. Supermarché is designed to be an innovative solution to introduce the same sort of online services in use by (although still relatively not commonly used by customers, at the time) British supermarket chains such as Tesco and ASDA to Tunisians.

The project was created using Unity3D and UnityParkSuite with the final objective being a browser based interface that could be used for ecommerce.

Supermarché was designed to present the user with a basic recreation of the inside of a supermarket, with the shelves lined with 3D representations of the various products available for the user to purchase. Whilst in the United Kingdom or the United States this would may be untenable due to copyright issues with the product packaging or the problems associated with recreating the products in 3D - Tunisia's 'laxer' copyright laws and the common practice of using stagiaires (in Tunisia, a student is often almost obligated to find an internship if they wish to continue in their career path), the use of realistic looking and periodically updated packaging on supermarket shelves to the extent that all items stocked by the supermarket can be represented in someway is much more possible.

My contract at Synergy Space expired before the completion of the project.
